Why So Many Interventions
Our center continues on the path of high volumes: since 2017, we have consistently performed over 1,000 bariatric procedures per year, with a peak in 2022 when the number of surgeries exceeded 1,500.
Why so many surgeries? High volumes, in our intention and in practice, are associated with a low complication rate. This is achieved both through the standardization of surgical procedures (always performing the same steps, aiming for the safest and, when possible, fastest surgical approach), and through the adoption of the ERAS protocol, optimizing the management of comorbidities often associated with obesity.
Our waiting list is short, but we admit patients to the operating room only when we believe they are ready. I believe this approach has yielded good results: complications can never be completely eliminated, as all surgeons know well, but year after year, we have seen a progressive reduction in their number.
